Breast Cancer is the leading cancer in our country as per the latest GLOBOCAN 2020 data. It accounts for 25-31% of all female cancers. More than 50% of women diagnosed with breast cancer are below the age of 50 years.
Women whose mother or grandmother have breast cancer have a higher chance of getting breast cancer. Women who smoke or consume alcohol, have a high fat diet, are obese or overweight and are nulliparous are at a greater risk to develop breast cancer. The most common signs and symptoms of breast cancer include painless lump or thickening of the breast, bloody nipple discharge, change in size or contour of the breast, change in color or appearance of areola and redness or pitting of skin over the breast. The best way for diagnosis for breast cancer is by triple examination i.e. a combination of clinical examination, tissue diagnosis (FNAC or Biopsy) and Mammography. Treatment for Breast Cancer includes a combination of Surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy with or without Hormone therapy. To help detect Breast Cancer early, a good breast health plan is essential. A good breast health plan includes clinical examination, screening mammography and breast self examination.
